clinically driven. I wish that all medical applications were as easy
to use" |

I was
the “wound expert” to whom wound assessments were referred during
the “Implementation Phase” of Pixalere in Chilliwack for the period
of October 2003 to March 2004, and ongoing as Pixalere.
Although the change in my practice from “hands on” to “computer” was
disconcerting, overall it was a positive experience.
With Pixalere:
1. [I have realized] an opportunity to evaluate current wound
care, promote “best practices”, and provide education
2. Having a wound picture as part of the referral provides a
crucial “layer” when assessing wounds. Prior to Pixalere, I would
receive a verbal description only.
3. A “wound expert” [is now able to] assess the wounds,
recommend treatment and monitor progress. This results in more
consistent, cost-effective wound care.

Fraser Health Authority
The Fraser Health Authority is one of six health authorities
established by the government of British Columbia in December 2001.
Serving 1.3 million people within a boundary stretching from Burnaby
to Boston Bar, and with an annual budget of $1.4 billion, the FHA
provides quality health care ranging from acute care hospitals to
community-based residential, home health, mental health, and public
health services.
In the Fall of 2002, Pixalere™
was trialed in
the FHA's Maple Ridge Health Unit to establish Pixalere™
as a viable
alternative to the traditional methods of collecting wound
assessment data, and an innovative way of improving communication
and collaboration between health care professionals. The trial was
very successful and now Pixalere™
is being
adopted by the FHA, with a Phase 1 implementation taking place at
the Chilliwack Health Unit. |
